The smell of Texas grass with shadowy trees sheltering the sweltering heat on our skin. Sweet tea treating a parched mouth with a sliver of lemon. Layers of dust caked on delicate baubles atop old-fashioned shelves. Confectioneries tickling the tongues of my children as wet hands melded tasty foods into meals artistically prepared for feast. Sun-kissed afternoons amidst cool pool water refreshing thirsty bodies in need of relief. Cobwebs spun dancing in the corner among sweet-southern smells pouring from the kitchen. Sunburn’s sting tingling tight skin, dry and cracked. Life’s belongings and trinkets stuffed into cloth bags, folded and packed into the car to travel once more.
Children’s permeating laughter on Granny’s fragile lap, showered with many kisses, “I love you’s” and thanks for more memories made.
