Every now and again there’s a day that comes along and knocks you out of your shoes. No, scratch that, knocks you out of a slumber, because it begins before you’re even awake.
Phone ringing,
dreams silenced,
groggy eyes fumbling for the receiver.
Confusing call after call,
interrupted by kids fighting,
coffee out of reach, unmade,
insistent knocks at the door.
Military housing people threaten with blurry eyes and aggravated voices,
our day’s plans interrupted,
a drive unexpectedly out of town.
Worried,
hurrying,
all-for-nothing because the trampoline enclosure doesn’t fit – housing will have to wait for another day to return their threats.
Dusk settles in,
tired tattered bodies,
desktop computer won’t boot,
children too excited to sleep.
Time to sit and watch So You Think You Can Dance,
that will cheer me up,
watching Evan win,
surely this will help..
DAMMIT EVAN DIDN’T WIN.
Reality settling in with the night,
dishes lurking in the sink,
anticipated chores to avoid,
working out to relieve stress and burn off dinner.
And in the other room, is a tired, giggly toddler, watching my favorite cartoon movie ever, who’s looking especially cuddly. I think I’ll join her. Despite my horrible day, she’s my happy ending.
