Easy Iron Man Cupcakes
Ready-made fondant is my trick to making these (and all my other cupcakes) perfectly! Sure, I could make the fondant from scratch, but I’d rather stick with my tried and true ready-made fondant because it’s perfect right out of the package and already ready to work with! I have attempted and failed miserably in the past before trying to make my own. It’s all about working with your strengths and weaknesses when it comes to making treats like these. Plus, working with ready-made fondant saves me time! I can make recipes faster with it, or crank out large amounts of baked goods!
Simple Iron Man Cupcakes Recipe
You could decorate your Iron Man Cupcakes with another frosting tip. I chose the very basic Wilton 1M tip because it looks good every time and the real focus on the cupcakes is Iron Man’s hand with the Repulsor on it. If you’re unfamiliar with the term, the Repulsor is the circle in the middle of his palm that repels enemies. It also shoots lasers, too. It’s actually one of Iron Man’s primary weapons and is available on all his suits. We made Iron Man’s Repulsor simply using ready-made white fondant and silver edible luster to give it a sheen.
How to Make Iron Man Cupcakes
To make Iron Man Cupcakes, you will need the following:
- Your favorite vanilla cupcakes recipe, already baked and cooled
- Softened butter
- Confectioners’ sugar
- Milk
- Yellow gel food coloring
- Red fondant
- White fondant
- Silver food luster
You will also need the following tools:
- Piping bag
- Wilton 1M tip
- Paring knife
- Cake decorating paint brush
- Electric Mixer
- Cooling rack
- Wilton fondant mat
Bake your cupcakes according to your cake mix’s directions and let them fully cool. Cupcakes cool best when they’re on a cooling rack, as they will cool from above and below. By ensuring your cupcakes are completely cool, this will prevent your buttercream from slipping off your cupcakes after you decorate them.
In a medium-sized bowl, use an electric mixer and beat your butter, sugar, and milk on slow speed to make your buttercream frosting. Gradually increase the speed on your mixer to high. Once the ingredients are smooth and form semi-stiff peaks, your buttercream is ready. Add into the buttercream the yellow gel food coloring and mix until thoroughly tinted. Scoop the buttercream into a frosting bag with Wilton 1M tip attached. Frost each cupcake and set aside.
To make Iron Man’s hands for each cupcake, roll twelve spheres out of your red fondant, about ½ an inch in size, on your Wilton fondant mat.
Flatten each sphere, so that it’s about one inch in diameter.
To start shaping the hand, use a good quality paring knife to cut out a small triangle from your fondant circle. It will look like a pie piece or even Pac Man.
Cut slits along the top to give the hand four fingers, as shown.
Trim the sides at the base of the hand to give the hand a more realistic shape at the wrist area.
Round out the cut edges and smoothen any imperfections out to form the hand.
With your white fondant, roll out twelve spheres, about ¼ of an inch in size. Pour some edible silver luster into a bowl and add a few drops of water. Use a small cake decorating paint brush and paint each white sphere with the silver glitter evenly. Place one sphere on each hand in the palm area to create Iron Man’s Repulsor.
Top each frosted cupcake with Iron Man’s hand, gently nestling the hand into the frosting. Serve and enjoy!
