Peppermint Oreo Truffles Recipe
These peppermint candies remind me of being a kid, you know? My grandmother always had these on hand in a candy jar. They’re just so classic and perfect, and pair so well with all kinds of baked goods for the holidays!
Peppermint Oreo Truffles for the Holidays
Now we used peppermint candies for this recipe but you could easily substitute those for candy canes, which you might have on hand. You can easily use them as a substitute, they’d taste just about the same! For me, though, there’s just something about using the round candies. Plus, they’re much more fun to smash into pieces too, haha!
Peppermint Oreo Truffles for the Holidays
We made these Peppermint Oreo Truffles topped simply with crushed peppermint candies, but you could easily add a chocolate drizzle on top if you wanted to, or even add a little more crushed up Oreo to the top, too? The sky is the limit here, friends. For me, you can’t get more classic and stunning than those crunchy bits of peppermint on top, singing holiday carols to you as you bite into ’em. So good, friends.
How to Make Peppermint Oreo Truffles
To make these delicious Peppermint Oreo Truffles, you will need the following:
- Oreo cookies
- Softened cream cheese
- Peppermint candies
- White candy melts
- Coconut oil
You will also need handy:
Line a large baking sheet with wax paper and set aside. Place all of your Oreo cookies in a gallon-size freezer bag and crush them into fine bits with a rolling pin. (You can also opt to use a food processor as an alternate method.) Place the crushed cookie bits into a bowl nearby. Mix well with softened cream cheese until well combined.
Roll your Oreo cookie bits/cream cheese mixture into 1.5 inch cookie balls and gently place on the lined pan. (Note: If you make the cookie balls smaller, you will make more cookie ball truffles per recipe.) Refrigerate for about one hour to set.
Place peppermint candies in a sandwich bag and crush using a rolling pin until they are roughly crushed candy bits.
In a small, microwavable bowl, microwave white candy melts and coconut oil in 30-second intervals until completely melted. Using a fork, dip each Oreo truffle into the melted candy and coat completely, then place back on lined baking sheet. Sprinkle the top of each candy-covered truffle with the crushed peppermint candy bits and refrigerate for another hour to set.
Once the candy coating is set, you can serve, or put in decorative baggies to give as gifts, make cookie platters for loved ones, or you can sample your handiwork (again and again). 🙂
