After a few cooler-than-normal days, overcast and murky, today the sun is shining, the weather report is practically singing, and my skin is aching for some good ol’ Vitamin D.
I’m going to pack up my double jogger for the long haul, complete with sandwiches, snacks, drinks, diapers, wipes, and more. Instead of the almost two-mile jaunt to the close-to-home park, I think I’m going to take a four-to-six-mile trek to the golf course and the far-away park. It’s been quite a bit since I did that with the kids, and I think it’s time we do that again. I can feel it deep down in my bones, I need the fresh air and exercise.
I could use some time out of the house and the break, too. After my husband being away, and this week having been filled with soccer rosters, schedule adjustments, doctor appointments for my teen son’s skin infection, and a fussy almost-one-year-old, since an all-day nap is out of the question, I think a long hike will do just fine. (I’m particularly excited about using the stroller. I could use the “away” time from the baby, who has been continually using me as a teether lately. Sigh.)
The dishes, the sweeping, the countertops will have to wait. Momma needs a breather. Granted, it might not be a day off (let alone an afternoon off), but it’s definitely some very much needed “personal” time.
What about you? What do you do when you need to get away, even if only for a little while?
