I always aim to have the kids help in some manner when I create recipes, and this one is no different. Minions Valentine’s Rice Krispies Treats for Parties
We really loved making these colored Rice Krispies Treats. I did it once before with the Valentine’s Rice Krispies Treats recipe, and those colors came out exceptionally well. I wasn’t sure how strong and intense of a color this yellow gel food coloring would produce in this case. Man oh man, isn’t the color simply stunning? Like sunshine yellow! It just fills me with happiness!
Simple Minions Valentine’s Rice Krispies Treats
Ready-made fondant comes in pretty clutch here when creating the Minions’ eyes. You already know how big of a fan I am of ready-made fondant for all my dessert recipes as opposed to attempting to create it from scratch. I’m a huge fan of using what you know and focusing on your strengths. Let me tell ya, fondant is not a strength for me having failed quite miserably in the past (ahem). I embrace my suckage in this department, hence my hearty love of ready-made lol. Also, I’ve come a long way in my dessert decorating, haven’t I? 🙂

Grab the kids and get ’em involved! Let them help you decorate these Minions Valentine’s Rice Krispies Treats for their parties and special occasions! Children of all sizes can help you mix the Rice Krispies Treats in a bowl and press the mixture into the heart-shaped muffin pan. Encourage the littles to help you roll the fondant to create the Minions’ eyeballs but save the frosting decoration for the Minions’ goggles for older kiddos with a bit more hand control and dexterity.
How to Make Minions Valentine’s Rice Krispies Treats
To make these Minions Valentine’s Rice Krispies Treats, you will need the following ingredients:
- Cooking oil spray
- Heart-shaped silicone muffin pan (preferably one that has 6 hearts)
- Butter
- Mini marshmallows
- Yellow gel food coloring
- Rice Krispies cereal (we get the family size so we can double this recipe AND have breakfast lol)
- White fondant
- Edible black food marker
- Black decorating frosting
You will also need the following tools:
Spray your heart-shaped muffin pan with cooking spray and set aside.
In a medium-sized saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Once it is melted, add mini marshmallows. Mix constantly until all the mini marshmallows have melted. Add two small drops of yellow gel food coloring. (Yes, only two!) Mix until marshmallow mixture is completely tinted with the yellow coloring. Remove the saucepan from heat and add Rice Krispies cereal.
Fold until all the Rice Krispies cereal is completely coated with the marshmallow mixture.
Scoop your Rice Krispies treat mixture into each heart-shaped cavity of your silicone muffin pan, patting it down so it’s packed well and is flat on top (so it’ll sit well). Allow time for it to set and cool completely, approximately about 30 minutes.
Roll out six spheres from your white fondant, about ½ an inch in size.
Flatten each sphere slightly for the eyeballs.
With your edible black food marker, draw one pupil in the center of each fondant eye.
Remove your cereal treats from the heart-shaped muffin pan. Place one eye in the center (usually, the rice cereal treats are sticky enough to hold it, but you can add some decorating frosting on the back of the eye to secure it further).
Using Wilton decorating tip #8, frost each cereal treat with black decorating frosting. Make a contour around each eye and then add lines on each side (these black lines act like their goggles).
Change the frosting tip to Wilton decorating tip #5 and give your cereal treats some “hair” on the top of the eyeball. Serve and enjoy!
