How Difficult is This Recipe to Make?
Not difficult at all, actually! We opted to use pre-made pizza dough to make it even easier to construct these heart-shaped pizzas! Cookie cutters also help save the day to make the hearts as perfect as can be!
Can Kids Make These Heart-Shaped Pizzas?
Heck yeah they can! The heart-shaped cutters we use are safe, and should any trimming be necessary (because their little bodies didn’t have the strength to push hard enough), parents can step in and help with a good quality sharpened paring knife if needed (but probably won’t be needed). I outline a few time-saving tricks below which also help with little hands in the kitchen helping!
Ingredients Needed to Make Heart-Shaped Pizzas
To make these Heart-Shaped Pizzas for Valentine’s Day, you will need the following ingredients:
- Premade pizza dough in a can or packed fresh and ready to go
- Pizza sauce
- Shredded mozzarella cheese
- Pepperoni slices
- Cooking spray
Keep in mind, all of the ingredient amounts you’ll need are in the printable recipe card below.
Tools Needed to Make Heart-Shaped Pizzas for Valentine’s Day
You will also need these kitchen tools handy to make this Valentine’s Day recipe:
- Large cutting board
- Rolling pin
- Spoon or basting brush (to apply pizza sauce)
- 1.5 inch heart-shaped cookie cutter
- 5 inch heart-shaped cookie cutter
- Cookie sheet or baking stone
- Spatula
How to Make Heart-Shaped Pizzas
Preheat oven to the temperature recommended according to pizza dough package instructions. Use the small heart cookie cutter to cut heart-shaped pepperoni slices on your large cutting board (or plate) and set aside.
Use the rolling pin to roll out the pizza dough onto a large cutting board for as thick or thin crust as you’d like. Utilizing the large heart cookie cutter, cut out heart-shapes from the flattened pizza dough. If you aren’t able to cut four hearts from your crust, cut as many as you can, then form the dough into a ball and roll it out using a rolling pin to cut additional hearts.
Place the heart-shaped dough on a lightly sprayed baking sheet or pizza stone using cooking spray. Top each heart-shaped pizza with pizza sauce using a basting brush to spread it evenly.
Generously top the pizza sauce with handfuls of shredded mozzarella cheese. Be sure to keep the cheese on the sauce on the dough so it retains its shape while cooking.
Place three heart-shaped pepperoni slices on each pizza.
Bake according to pizza dough package instructions or until the pizza crust is golden brown and crispy with the cheese melted and sizzling. Cool about 10 minutes or so on a plate before serving!
How Big Can I Make These Heart Shaped Pizzas?
As big as you’d like! You don’t have to use the 5 inch heart-shaped cookie cutter if you don’t want to make mini heart-shaped pizzas like we did! You can totally create a large heart-shaped pizza without having to order it from Papa Johns, Pizza Hut, or Papa Murphy!
To achieve this, roll out your pizza dough, and use a paring knife to create the shape of a heart. Continue to cut heart shapes from your pepperoni and apply the sauce, cheese, and pepperoni slices as you would normally!

For a fun meal for someone you love, you could easily serve this meal with mac and cheese, Italian herbed potatoes or potatoes au gratin, or maybe even some pizza pasta as a side dish! For dessert, any one of our adorable Valentine’s desserts would work beautifully!
