Can Kids Prepare These Halloween Treats?
With adult supervision, absolutely, especially with the stovetop portion of this recipe (when we melt the marshmallows down into its blissful goo before stirring into the cereal). Go ahead and have the kiddos help you mix, shape, and decorate!
How Do You Mold Rice Krispies Treats into Balls?
Because of their natural pliability (especially when they’re still warm after being blended together), you can mold Rice Krispies Treats into all kinds of shapes! You can use your hand or molds, so long as you have one important thing by your side – cooking spray!
Cooking spray helps to prevent sticking on your hands, on your molds, and your pieces of equipment (like cookie cutters and more)! We’ve made Rice Krispies Treats into truffle shapes before with our S’mores Rice Krispies Treats, heart-shaped like we did with our Valentine’s Rice Krispies Treats or our Minion’s Rice Krispies Treats, and egg-shaped with our Dino Egg Rice Krispies Treats!

You will also need the following kitchen tools and equipment to create these awesome Halloween treats!
- Sheet pan with wax paper or reusable silicone baking mat
- Medium saucepan
- Wooden spoon or rubber spatula
- Rolling pin or Wilton Fondant Roller
- Wilton piping tip #12
- Microwave safe bowl
- Piping bag
- Cooking spray
- Scissors or kitchen shears
Line a baking sheet with wax paper or a reusable silicone baking mat and set aside. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add miniature marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.
Add the Rice Krispies cereal and fold until all ingredients are well combined.
Roll the Rice Krispies cereal mixture into small spheres, about 1 ½ – 2 inches in diameter. To keep it from sticking to your fingers, spray your hand with cooking spray in between rolling. Place each rolled ball gently on the lined baking sheet.
Allow to cool and set, about 30 minutes. As the Rice Krispies Treats cool and set, roll out each of the fondants separately with a rolling pin or Wilton Fondant Roller until they’re about ¼ of an inch thick.
Use a Wilton #12 piping tip to cut out 12 circles from each fondant color. You will want the larger end of the piping tip for the white fondant and the smaller end for the black fondant.
Press one black fondant circle onto the center of one white fondant circle.
Add candy melts and coconut oil to a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, until completely melted (stir between each interval). Carefully add melted candy into a piping bag and cut a small slit at the end.
Pipe out a circle on each Rice Krispies Treat, about ½ an inch in diameter. Top with one pre-prepared fondant eye. Allow to set.
Aren’t they fun and not so scary for little ones?
